A three days series of events including a Round Table Discussion “Taking Pakistan to the Word”, a Cultural extravaganza of heritage, fashion and music called “HunarKeRang” and an Artisan’s Melawere organized by the Indus Heritage Trust, an organization working to preserve and promote the arts and crafts of Pakistani artisans, by enhancing their skills and designs to make marketable products of excellent quality and find best markets for them and thereby promote and propagate the heritage of the Indus Valley. Both the events were attended by stakeholders from the diplomatic corps, donors, policy makers and government representatives as well patrons of the art and culture. An added benefit of these events was their extensive media coverage that was gained from the print and electronic media as well as the exposure of the event footage and pictures on social media.
Roundtable Discussion “Taking Pakistan to the World” | April 28th2016
The first day Round Table Discussion was inaugurated my the Minister of State/ Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program MarviMemonwho spoke about the importance of preserving the arts and crafts of the region and in particular looking for synergies and alliances between all stakeholders. She suggested using the talent of women artisans and marketing their products thru e-commerceto reach a worldwide market.
The highlight of the Round Table Discussion was the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Indus Heritage Trust IHT represented my MsSidiqaMalik and the world famous Smithsonian institute represented by its Director Mr. Michael Mason.
Launch Event of “HunarKeRang” | April 29th2016
“HunarKeRang” evening event was a celebration of the Indus Valley civilization and portrayed a journey of its people through the ages and generations of our artisans. With a combination of light, sound and visual representations and music dance and mime performances from Sindh, Southern Punjab and Sufism, supported by background recorded narration of AriebAzharthe audience traveled the lane of history to reach the present day Pakistan connecting with our artisans and their creations. A fashion show displaying the brand of Virasat, Virsa, Rangeen, andDaftariwas highly appreciated as the audience went to see these brands from the displayed stalls at the event.
This colorful event also witnessed two artisans representing Sindh & Southern Punjab, paying a tribute to the development sector stalwart Mr. ShoaibSultan by presenting a bouquet of flowers and a traditional Sindhi ajrakto him. This was followed by the screening of Indus Heritage Trust’s documentary produced by SAC. The evening culminated in all the artisans coming on to the stage with the IHT and World Bank team and celebrating the success that they have achieved in literally taking their destinies into their own hands.

The three days event concluded in an opportunity for the artisans from Sindh and Southern Punjab who had traveled from far flung districts to Islamabad, to showcase their skills and sell their products at the Artisan’s Melaorganized by IHT. This Melawas lively, profitable and enjoyable for all the artisans and gave them a chance to interact, network and market their products to diverse stakeholders.
